In February 2022, Emerge Marketing Solutions began a partnership with IKM-Manning Community School District, focusing on enhancing their strategic planning and marketing/communication efforts. This collaboration led to the realization that the district required a comprehensive overhaul of their existing digital platforms.
As a result, Emerge crafted a detailed Request for Proposal (RFP) for a new website that would better serve the community and streamline communication. We evaluated incoming proposals to ensure the new system would effectively meet the evolving needs of the district, marking a significant step forward in their communication strategy.

The IKM-Manning Community School District faced a significant challenge after two unsuccessful public bond referendums, highlighting a critical need for a revamped strategic approach. Recognizing the evolving landscape of educational environments, where districts must proactively attract and retain students and staff rather than passively await enrollments, the administration decided it was essential to develop a cohesive and comprehensive vision. This new strategy required active engagement from all district stakeholders, including the school board, administration, teachers, students and the broader community. By incorporating diverse perspectives and building consensus, the district aimed to foster a supportive environment conducive to achieving substantial organizational goals and adapting to the increasingly competitive nature of educational offerings.

Emerge Marketing Solutions implemented a comprehensive approach to address the challenges faced by the IKM-Manning Community School District. Beginning with a discovery session with the administration, the firm thoroughly analyzed the current situation to tailor a strategic development process. To capture a wide array of perspectives, Emerge organized “Huddle Up” sessions that included administrators, students, local businesses and parents to pinpoint priorities and gather community feedback. Additionally, the strategy involved conducting a community survey followed by 12 focus groups alongside four dedicated staff “Huddle Ups” that allowed deeper exploration of internal issues and ensured all voices were heard.
Building on this inclusive foundation, Emerge Marketing Solutions drafted a strategic plan, which was then shared publicly with stakeholders for feedback leading to its implementation at the beginning of 2023. The strategy was anchored by four key Pillars for Success – Student Development & Achievement, School Environment & Culture, Communication & Community Engagement and Resource Management.
Throughout the process, Emerge managed all communications, introducing initiatives like “Wolf Way Wednesday” — a regular internal communication to keep staff updated on progress, board meeting outcomes and successes in key areas. This was particularly significant as the district had previously struggled with effective communication. This holistic and transparent approach facilitated a transformation in the district’s strategic direction, significantly boosting stakeholder engagement and alignment with the district’s refreshed objectives.
